FSF India on the recent release of free educational resources by NCERT

by Dr. Sasi Kumar, FSF India.

(NCERT) has released a large quantity of educational material for all classes in different languages in the forms of documents, audio recordings, videos and interactive material under a free licence, namely, the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike Licence that allows people to not only use them freely, but also to share them in the same or modified form. In fact, the web site, http://nroer.gov.in, states, "Use, comment, critique, create, contribute and enrich the repository" making it clear that this is a work in progress. This, we are sure, is a very good initiative that can make a lot of good educational material available freely to students of all regions and at all levels. Many students may use it for learning and several people may use it also as a good reference material that is easily accessible from anywhere. In today's world, when small computers have become very common in the form of tablets and mobile phones, this resource is set to become possibly the most widely used educational material. We congratulate the NCERT and the people behind the work for this initiative.
